Abstract

This study examined the perceptions of pre-service Jordanian teachers regarding teaching competencies in the Islamic Education program. Participants were 96 early childhood preservice teachers in the practicum program at Yarmouk University during the 2015-2016 school year. This study utilized a Likert survey that was developed in 1988 by the Centre for the Study of Learning and Performance at Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec. Results indicated that this education program focused on developing learning strategies and teacher competencies in the classroom, since the total scores of students learning strategies and teaching approach competencies were high. Given this finding, most of the pre-service teachers have good skills in teaching the Islamic concepts.
