A special memoir of the late Emeritus Professor Dr. Singaravelu Sachchidanandam (22.12.1936-13.1.2020) is featured in this volume as an appreciation of his service. He has made immense contributions in various ways to the development of the department. He was one of the first students to start his education at the University of Malaya, when the Department of Indian Studies was established in Singapore. Later, when the department moved to Kuala Lumpur, he traveled and continued his education here. After graduating, he worked as a lecturer in the department. He expanded his creative horizons into teaching, research, and publishing books through his academic prowess. His doctoral dissertation is considered as one of the monumental works that has been produced in the Ramayana tradition in the southeast Asia. He is claimed to be one of the longest serving academic staff and the head of the department; he was the only professor who has been holding the position for 18 years. His loss is the biggest loss to the department. His immense passion in research and his in-depth research outputs and his service will always be remembered.
முதுநிலை பேராசிரியர் முனைவர் சிங்கரவேலு சச்சிதானந்தம் (22.12.1936-13.1.2020) அவர்களது சேவையினைப் போற்றும் வகையில் இந்நினைவஞ்சலிக் கட்டுரை இடம்பெற்றுள்ளது. மலாயாப் பல்கலைக்கழக இந்திய ஆய்வியல் துறை சிங்கப்பூரில் நிலைநிறுத்தப்பட்டபோது, அங்குக் கல்வியினைத் தொடங்கிய முதல்கட்ட மாணவர்களுள் ஒருவர் இவராவார். பின்னர், இந்தத் துறை கோலாலம்பூருக்கு மாற்றம் செய்தபோது, அதனோடு பயணித்து, இங்குக் கல்வியைத் தொடங்கினார். இத்துறையில் படித்து, பட்டம்பெற்று, பின்னர் இத்துறையிலேயே விரிவுரையாளராக பணியில் அமர்ந்து தனது கல்வித்திறத்தால் போதனாமுறை, ஆய்வேடுகள், புத்தகங்கள் எனத் தனது படைப்பு எல்லைகளை விரிவாகிக் கொண்டு, பேராசிரியர் தகுதியினை அடைந்து தன்னை வளர்த்துக் கொண்டதோடு, துறையினையும் வளர்ச்சிப் பாதையில் இட்டுச் சென்றார். இந்தத் துறையில் சுமார் 18 ஆண்டுகள் தலைவர் பொறுப்பில் இருந்த ஒரே பேராசிரியர் இவரே. தனது சேவையினை முழுமையாக ஆற்றிய பின்னர், பதவி ஓய்வுபெற்று, பின்னர் முதுநிலைப் பேராசிரியர் தகுதியைப் பெற்று, இத்துறையிலேயே தனது முழுச்சேவையை வழங்கிய பிதாமகர் இவராவார். இவரது இழப்பு இத்துறைக்கு ஏற்பட்ட மிகப் பெரிய இழப்பாகும். அவரது அபார ஆய்வுப்பார்வையும் ஆழமான ஆய்வுச்சாரங்களும் அவரது நுண்மான்புலத்திற்கு அடிப்படையாகும். அன்னாரின் நினைவுகள் இத்துறையோடு என்றென்று நிலைத்திருக்க வேண்டுமெனும் நோக்கினில் இவரது நிலைவஞ்சலி இக்கண் பிரசுரிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
